While researching self-portraits, I learned that a self-portrait should suggest the essence of the maker. I thought about what my “essence” is. I decided using my twisted branches technique along with my confetti technique represents the essence of me. Then I decided that continuing along the line of trees, that my tree should have leaves. My self-portrait tree then would sprout tiny thumbnail quilt leaves. These thumnail quilts are representative of the type of original quilts and projects I like to create (baby quilts, interleave interpretations, bowls, table runners, mystery quilts, special occasion quilts, challenge quilts), as well as other aspects of my life (exercising, quilting with my grandchildren, my marriage to Wayne in 1972-see the heart on the trunk of the tree).
